Hot off the phone, Arctic Cat announced that it had ended its negotiations with snocross star Blair Morgan. "I got the news about twenty minutes ago and we put an informational fax together for our dealers and the media." said Cat Spokesman Jay Lusignan. "I can't say for certain where he'll be, but his decision has been made and it's not with Arctic Cat."
A quick stop at blairmorganracing.com confirmed our hunches from earlier this summer that the Canadian racer will in fact be onboard with Team Ski-Doo throughout this season. Though no contract details are currently available, it would stand to reason that Morgan will work as an independent racer with big-time sponsorship dollars and support, similar to the setup Chris Vincent had at the start of last season.
Morgan's decision went against the grain of what our online readers thought he'd do. Last June, our AmSnow Online sledder's poll asked where online readers thought would Morgan end up racing.
Less than a fourth of AmSnow voters thought that he would stay with Cat this season as a factory racer. Over 17% thought he'd ride with Polaris as a member of its factory team. 15,75% said they thought he'd just retire from snowmobile racing. Over 14% said Ski-Doo would be his racing destination- on a factory team.
Here's how the voting shook out:
23.29% - Arctic Cat, as a factory racer.
17.12% - Polaris, as a factory racer.
15.75% - I think he'll just retire from snowmobile racing.
14.38% - Ski-Doo, as a factory racer.
13.01% - Arctic Cat, on an independent team.
7.08% - Yamaha, as a factory racer.
5.25% - Ski-Doo, on an independent team.
2.05% - Redline, as a factory racer.
1.83% - Polaris, on an independent team.
0.23% - Yamaha, on an independent team.
Check back often over the next week as we learn more details of this decision.
