American Snowmobiler's 17th Annual Shoot-Out in Martin, Mich., will take place this Saturday and Sunday with stock sleds being run on asphalt, but not grass.
Due to financial concerns, the Pro Snowmobile Grass Drag Association has canceled the grass drag portion of the weekend's events. Ken Crouch of PSGDRA cited sponsorship concerns and costs for track preparation as reasons for the last-minute decision to pull-out of the weekend-long event.
American Snowmobiler apologizes to anyone who will be inconvenienced or disappointed by the grass drags' cancellation.
However, there still will be plenty to see and do in Michigan.
The asphalt drags and stock sled tests are a go at US 131 Dragway in Martin. American Snowmobiler and the National Snowmobile Drag Race Association (NSDRA) along with its sponsor Torco Fuels will have 2 days of super sled racing.
NSDRA's Jamie Bellman, the event coordinator, expects a draw of 75-100 asphalt sled racers, which will be accompanied by motorcycle and car races. Action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with snowmobile drags starting between 1 and 2 p.m. Snowmobile racing excitement continues on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
In conjunction with the asphalt drags, AmSnow will run a variety of stock sleds on the asphalt from Hauck Powersports and Straightline Performance. There will also be an improved Yamaha Phazer from Woody's Performance and a stock Phazer from Simons CPR. The stock machines will be dyno tested by Land & Sea Inc., makers of Dynomite Dynamometers.
In addition, Yamaha will be giving free demo rides on its new 2007 sleds during the event.
