Optimum snowmobile setup involves many variables, including proper clutching, engine tuning, suspension and traction. It's rare to hit upon the perfectsetup for all three simultaneously.

Upshift, downshift, engagement speed and peak rpm(for peak horsepower)are crucial. You don't have to be a psychic to know when your snowmobileis not clutching properly-though the messages may be at times subtle.

When trying to dial in the clutch that will deliver the response youwant, several procedures must be followed. First, ride and test in yourmost preferred conditions. Take note of clutch engagement speed, rpm spike, rpm creep, rpm speed at full throttle and upshift and downshift.

With your research complete, call a dealer or a performance shop foradded advice. Also, consult a service manual. Armed with this knowledgeand advice, make the necessary purchases.

We consulted the experts at Starting Line Products (SLP) of Idaho Falls,Idaho, as well as Olav Aaen's Clutch Tuning Handbook. We've gatheredthe information to make it easy, but there's no secret club among clutchtuners; help is there for the asking.
