Track Alignment and Tension
Once the hyfax is replaced, there are still some other things to consider.First, make sure the track is properly aligned and at the correct tension.These checks need to be done regularly throughout the season. Tracks stretch,and when frequent tail landings occur, misalignment will also take place.

If necessary, track alignment and tension can be performed simultaneouslywhile the snowmobile is on the ground or on a jack stand. Both should beperformed every 300 to 350 miles:

1. Place the snowmobile's rear end on a suitable jack stand, ata minimum one-foot height, or tip the snowmobile on its side.

2. Using a spring scale, measure the poundage needed to pull thetrack down one inch at the rail's center point. For best results, hook thespring scale on a track clip. If the spring scale reads less or more thanthe manufacturer's specification at one-inch pull, adjustments are needed.

3. To make a tension adjustment, loosen or tighten the right andleft rear axle nut tension bolts. Turn each track adjuster evenly, turnfor turn and in small increments until proper poundage is achieved at one-inchpull.

4. Once you achieve proper tension, check the track alignment.If the snowmobile's rear is not on a jack stand, make sure the track iscompletely off the ground.

5. Start the snowmobile and slowly turn the track. Do not standbehind the snowmobile or stand close to the track, and do not spin the trackat high speeds.

6. Once the track has spun several times, let the engine and trackcome to a stop without applying the brake.

7. Turn off motor.

8. Approximately six inches in front of the rear axle, measurethe distance between the track clip and the hyfax. Repeat on the other side.If one side has a narrow measurement, tighten the opposite side's idleradjustment bolt.

9. Retake the measurements.

10. Tighten the rear axle bolts, if loosened.

11. Place snowmobile on the ground.
