Wind protection is high on most snowmobilers' list of priorities. Notonly does it mean you stay a little warmer while cruising down the trailor across a lake, but the shape of the windshield also helps redirect airflow for better performance.
Replacing the stock windshield with an aftermarket one, is fairly simple. We chose the flared "White Diamonds on Team Yamaha Blue" windshieldfrom Sno-Stuff. Our recipient: a 1999 Yamaha 700 SX.
Here's the step-by-step installation procedure...
1. Open the hood and remove the four rubber bands on the underside of the hood that are holding the windshield in place.
2. Close the hood and locate the two plastic Phillips screws holding the windshield to the hood. Remove them.
3. Slip the windshield off.
Now you are ready to install your new Sno-Stuff windshield.
4. Take the Sno-Stuff windshield and slip the tabs in the grooves.
5. Replace the two plastic Phillips screws, but do not tighten them all the way, in case you need to adjust it when replacing the rubberbands.
6. Open the hood and replace the four rubber bands on the underside of the hood that hold the windshield in place.
7. Close the hood.
8. You may have to jiggle the windshield a little bit to be get it to fit properly, when it fits correctly, tighten the two plastic Phillipsscrews.
Once I installed the Sno-Stuff windshield and climbed aboard, I realized that because the windshield was solid, I could not see my ski tips- which is something I prefer when riding. So, I chose to remove and return theSno-Stuff windshield and replace it with a Yamaha tinted mid-height windshield. The installation process is exactly the same. Actually, this step-by-step installation process is applicable to any windshield replacement procedure.I also installed a Cobra flared windshield on a 1996 Polaris Ultra usingthe same steps.
