8. After you complete your underside repair and you need to finish the top side, bevel a one-eighth inch width on each side of the crack. Make certain to bevel down to the dried underside repair patch.

9. Fill in the crack with a secondary compound such as Dura-Mix Finishing Material Skim Coat. Smooth out and let dry.

10. Sand the compound down to a flat finish with 36-grit sandpaper.

11. Sand again with 80-grit wet/dry sandpaper.

12. Mask off area to be painted.

13. Apply a coat of primer.

14. Sand with 1000 to 1500-grit wet/dry sandpaper.

15. If the hood has a metallic finish, you may want to have the repair painted at a body shop. If the hood is basic blue, black, red, o white, use paint from the manufacturer. This is available from your dealer.

17. Remove masking, clean and apply decals as necessary.

Always wear a pair of rubber gloves when performing these repairs. If the repair material dries on your fingers, you will be wearing it for along time.

This do-it-yourself repair will cost up to $130. After the initial material cost, any subsequent repairs will cost about $20 to $40.
