grass roots snocross circuit forming in michigan

There's a new snocross circuit forming in Michigan for this season. The Michigan Snow X Racing Association has announced a four-race series specifically targeting the grass-roots snocross racer. "I've raced motocross for 20 years," said MSXRA president, Brent Walk. "My company has also been promoting special events for the past twelve years, so we have a good grasp of what needs to go into putting on a race series. Plus, we've interviewed many racers and sponsors about what they like and what they didn't like about current racing circuits."
The MSXRA will offer 14 classes from 120cc up to Semi-Pro Open and one PRO-AM Open class for pro racers. "Our main focus is on the Super Sport and Sport riders," added Walk. "The Super Sport class is strictly for riders with no former race experience. We want our racers to have an opportunity to develop their race skills and have a fair chance for success. After their first year of racing, they will automatically get bumped up to the Sport class."
The MSXRA will offer a points series in each class. "We will award points and prize money for the top ten finishers in each class. If a rider decides to progress up a class, the points will not follow him or her. We want to encourage drivers to stay in the class throughout the season unless there is a large discrepancy in talent from the rest of the class."
Events have been finalized for:
Jan. 15 at the Muskegon Twisting Trail Sno Burners club property.
Feb. 5 at the Hudsonville, MI Fairgrounds
Feb. 12 at the Ludington, MI Fairgrounds
Feb. 26 at the Grayling, MI Fairgrounds
"We made our events into one-day races," added Walk. "Many of the racers we talked to did not like having to be ready to run on Friday night and not get finished until Sunday afternoon., It was too much of a time commitment at the Sport level. We'll bring out our lighting system and run 'till we're done. One thing that will help keep the action moving along is that we're limiting classes to the first 50 entrants."

Walk told us that he's still in the midst of his Mountain Bike series, and has not been able to launch the snocross portion of the site yet. He said it will be up before the snow flies, roughly the middle to end of October.
