gearing up for the amsnow shootout
Amsnow
In preparation for the American Snowmobiler Mod Shoot-Out coming up Oct. 23 in Brainerd, Minn., the AmSnow staff got a sneak peek and test drive of an RX-1 trail turbo sled set up by Jeff Simons of Simons CPR with Jon Zeimetz.
This asphalt set-up sled and many more fast machines, including a large contingent of fully modified and trail sleds, will be run at the Shoot-Out at Brainerd International Raceway, in three weeks. We took our run at a track in Wisconsin.
The Yamaha-sponsored evening of racing was a good warm-up for the Shoot-out. Several asphalt runs were made with the RX-1, and a stock Vector. The racing was clean, fun, safe, and the times were very consistent.
The RX-1 and Vector got a lot of impressed looks from the fans and other participants at the track, especially since we were beating most of their times in their hopped up Mustangs, Trans-Ams, etc.
The sleds were exciting to ride too! AmSnow's Editor Mark Savage and Associate Editor Mark Boncher took turns on the sleds. Boncher managed to get the RX-1 trail turbo to 133 mph, or 9.8 seconds in a quarter mile!
Brainerd should be interesting!
