More gas efficient, shorter stopping distance, better cornering, more hook-up from a stop... if you could have all these things on a sled, simply by using a new lightweight rear suspension and drive system, wouldn’t you want it? That’s what Shawn Watling, of RAD Technologies claims that his rear axle driven technology can do. We were skeptical of this new suspension and drive technology, but invited Shawn to our Real World Shootout to test. We used our same test rider for these radar runs as well.
Shawn equipped two Ski-Doo XP MXZ sleds with two different versions of his RAD system (black/new, yellow/initial) and we tested them on trails, with radar, and more for several days. Our conclusion? These sleds certainly do stop faster, and corner sharper than many conventional sleds. Driving the sleds takes some getting used to as they corner flatter and more positive under power... requiring more of an opposite driving reaction than on a normal sled. We’ll have more on RAD in future issues. Check out more data, photos, and videos at
