fuel tank filler problems lead to polaris sled recall

Amsnow
Oct. 19, 2005 - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of select Polaris Industries snowmobiles because it has found that "the fuel tank filler neck on these snowmobiles can crack."

According to the CPSC, about 16,640 units were affected, including model year 2005 900 Fusion, 900 RMK, 900 Switchback snowmobiles, and select model year 2006 600 H.O. Fusion / RMK / Switchback, 900 Fusion / RMK / Switchback, FS Classic / Touring, and FST Classic / Touring / Switchback snowmobiles.

Polaris' external relations specialist Tony Meirovitz says that dealers will have kits to install on all affected sleds that don't show signs of cracks, and that consumers with affected models should contact their dealers. For all sleds that do show signs of cracks, the entire fuel system will be replaced, Meirovitz added. Polaris said that the recall was due to a supplier problem related to changing the composition of the material that makes up the part, and the problem was discovered in the company's Roseau, Minn. factory during production.
