Famous Ski-Doo racer Jacques Villeneuve Sr., brother of deceased Gilles Villeneuve, was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident during the Eagle River Derby Formula 1 Snowmobile race in Wisconsin. The 52-year-old French-Canadian was competing in the World Championship Snowmobile Derby event at Eagle River, an event he won in 1980, 1982 and 1986, when his snowmobile slowed from engine trouble and was hit at high speed by another competitor. He was airlifted to Marshfield Hospital with multiple fractures of his legs and pelvis and a spinal injury.
He had won the Vintage World Championship on his Ski-Doo in the SnoPro 440 IFS 85 & older class the weekend before.
