Snowmobile racing has always brought out unique thoughts from competitors. In the early 1970s, when the idea of Sno-Pro oval racing was breeding fresh concepts, there were many snowmobilers coming up with what they thought could be better ideas.
El Rabbit was the handiwork of S&D Racing out of Mason City, Iowa. This unique oval racer was designed to compete in super modified events.
Its soul was a Polaris Starfire 340cc, free-air twin mounted far to the left side. This concept was borrowed from short track stock car racing-the design was a way to achieve maximum cornering.
The chassis and some running gear were comprised of parts from ARBE manufacturing,a specialty parts manufacturer which had created a lightweight chassis and suspension for drag racing.
The clutch was a simple, but eerily effective unit, devised by former Polaris and Scorpion drivetrain specialist Marly Duclo.
Designed for racing, the El Rabbit derived its name from a connection to Union Carbide's synthetic snowmobile oil and its "Run With the Rabbit" advertising theme.
