Dustin Vandrie and his Monster Energy Arctic Cat 600 were a winning combination at the 11-round CSRA National Snowcross series. His third overall in the CSRA Semi-Pro National class was backed up by a top-five CSRA Regional season.
Dustin's father, John Vandrie, explains "They only built 300 of the 600cc Super-Stock machines, which are twin-cylinder carbureted 2-strokes. We have a mechanic, but I do most of the work and Arctic Cat reliability has been superb!"
Dustin, 20, is a phenom in Canadian snowcross. His sharp rise in racing prowess surprises not only spectators and competitors but the father and son team themselves. "I just went out and tried it," says Dustin. The kid from Shanty Bay, Ont., has quickly made a name for himself.
His methodical approach is Dustin's key to success. "I like technical tracks, where it's more about who is the best rider. Racing in Valcourt, Que., was my most memorable experience for 2008. I think it was the best track of the year, plus we were used to minus-25 weather, but this year it was only about zero and the sun was out!" he says. That kind of enthusiasm and work ethic has paid off for Dustin's sponsors Arctic Cat, Monster Energy, OTSFF, Stud Boy, Sled Pro, C&A and Fox.
"We've focused on suspension," says John, "Fox has been doing a lot of work with us setting up shocks for Dustin's weight and riding style. We've never had any engine or horsepower problems with Arctic Cat." Dustin has his eyes on another successful year of growth in 2009.
