Hyfax wear
Q I have a 1998 Yamaha Vmax 600 and I have had problems with what I consider pre-mature wear on the hyfax. It seems to happen towards the front of the rails. I have had a difficult time getting the sliders off once the wear occurs as well. Also, I am only able to get 500-700 miles between hyfax changes. Any help is appreciated! – stillsleddin2

A This hyfax wear was common for a lot of years on many Yamaha models. Often wear is caused from using sleds in lower snow areas. Yamaha actually made a ‘marginal snow wheel kit’ that was an extra wheel set you could buy for this sled. It was designed to be used on the outside of the rails of the rear skid. The wheel bolted to a bracket with a bearing spacer and you would simply compress the suspension and place the bracket against the rail in the desired location. We usually put this extra wheel towards the front just behind where the track would come around the angled front part of the rail. This solved 90% of our problems. Check with your local dealer as you can maybe find an extra wheel kit for your sled. Also, we suggest ‘tempering’ your hyfax while on your first ride with a new set. – Experts
