Polaris has returned to the top step of the podium in World Snowmobile Association (WSA) Snocross Worldwide Championship (SWC) competition this past weekend at Shakopee, MN.
Carl Schubitzke claimed a Pro Stock win in the series' seventh round, the second annual Manufacturer's Cup. Blair Morgan won his fourth Pro Open final of the season, helping Ski-Doo claim the prestigious Manufacturer's Cup with a win in the Open class.
In the Manufacturer's Cup final field of 12, Morgan jumped to the early lead, while Shaun Crapo slipped into second with Tucker Hibbert in third. Hibbert soon moved to second, but Morgan held off his repeated attacks for the first place finish.
The Pro Stock final was a classic nail biter with myriad twists and turns. Finnish standout Tomi Ahmasalo leapt to the early lead, with Justin Tate and Schubitzke second and third. Schubitzke slipped into second as Ahmasalo started easing away.
Blair Morgan's poor start left him seventh but still far better off than Tucker Hibbert, who was buried in 12th. Hibbert started a charge to the front, absolutely flying as Morgan moved to fourth. Meanwhile Hibbert, easily the fastest pilot on the track, worked toward the front with an eye on Schubitzke, who with two laps to go moved into first as Ahmasalo caught a whoop wrong and dismounted in front of a stunned crowd. While the young Hibbert closed in on the first place runner, he was not able to find a way past, and a jubilant Schubitzke returned Polaris to the winner's circle after a long victory drought.
The next round of the WSA's Snocross Worldwide Championship was originally scheduled for next weekend, Mar. 2-3, in Fargo, North Dakota. However, due to the ongoing weather situation and conditions in Fargo and at other sites considered, WSA officials and the management of Canterbury Park have decided to hold the circuit's eighth round back at Canterbury next weekend.
