Bombardier Recreational Products is selling its Delavan, Wis. and Spruce Pine, N.C. outboard motor plants and cutting a total of 800 jobs in both the United States and Canada.

About 600 jobs will be cut in Canada, 100 will be cut oversees and 100 will be eliminated in the U.S. The company currently has about 1,800 employees in the United States.

The two plants that are being sold currently make components for outboard motors. The 95 employees in Spruce Pines and 60 in Delavan are not included in the job cuts because the company says it hopes the plants will remain open after they are sold and continue as Bombardier suppliers.

Bombardier says this move was made to restructure operations to cut costs. It said the move was a step toward the company's goal to concentrate more on design and engineering, final assembly and marketing.
