bombardier opens new rotax facility in austria

 
Bombardier recently opened up a brand new high tech engine test facility for its Rotax division in Austria. The new multi-million dollar building was added to the company's Gunskirchen campus. It will feature a new measurement facility and a new test stand. It is expected to add up to 35 workers.

Bombardier officials indicated that this new test center will be used to advance the company's 4-Tec and 2-Tec engine families. The Tec engines are Rotax's new clean-running powerplants, as found in select Ski-Doo models this season.

"Innovation, quality and reliability have always been the strengths of Rotax engines," said Harald Plöckinger, Managing Director of Bombardier-Rotax. "This new test center is part of our initiative to develop a world-class production process to spearhead the development of our new generation of engines into the future."

The Measurement Center is expected to provide measurement and test capabilities as the highest level in the engine industry. It will be a service center for the development, assembly and production departments within Rotax, while also being available for Bombardier partners. Rotax will also use the Measurement Center for training and instruction in measurement and checking technology.

The Test Stand building was designed to handle high performance engines up to 350 horsepower. It will allow Rotax technicians to test the complete engine package, including original cooling systems, exhaust systems and drive shaft. It can perform its tests 24 hours a day, thanks to its automated operation. This is expected to complete engine testing procedures in a more timely manner. Its neighbors will appreciate the test center's new sound isolation technique, which is expected to deliver quieter operations.
