Yamaha's new Nytro screams out to satisfy your I-want-more attitude, and why? Because it can. So even though the stock Nytro has been dyno tested at 138 horsepower, some folks are already promising to double that, with a supercharger!
Mountain Performance, located in Draper, Utah, is a supercharger repository for both mountain and trail snowmobiles. Its Stage II supercharger kit can pull an additional 138 horses from the stout Yamaha 3-cylinder 4-stroke motor, for a grand total of about 276 horses. Yet, for a gear head, you could install this turnkey plug-and-play system in a solid day, or maybe a bit more.
Mountain Performance also has a milder Stage I kit that allows the Nytro motor to huff out a hefty 200 horsepower. This kit, which may prove as popular as the Stage II kit, rolls out the motor's increased horsepower with 10.5 lbs. of boost.
Both the Stage I and Stage II systems are altitude compensating, and when installed, do not require motor modifications, however, some bracket mods are needed. Other than that, some clutching changes (weights and springs) may be needed for the added horsepower. For the Stage I, premium pump gas will work for the motor. For Stage II however, a mix of 50/50 premium-to-race fuel is required. To assist the operator in assuring the motor is at its optimum, both kits include a fuel control box that allows the operator to dial in required fuel flows.
American Snowmobiler's mountain crew hopes to have a first impression test ride on the blown Nytro soon. But, for now, we're drooling.
Nytro's lighter weight, 90 lbs. lighter than the former Vector, will make it a favorite for blower aficionados in the mountains. For the mountain-taming geek or lake blaster, this looks to be your ticket to ride.
