Q: Anybody have some good info on a clutch kit for a '05 Mach Z 1000 twin, and best rpm for drag racing on the lake? I'm a Polaris guy, it's my friend's sled and he's tired of getting beat by a '01 XC800! I know he will beat me with a little tweaking though so you Ski-Doo guys can stop freaking out now. His sled is bone stock, and I have twin pipes and a lot of clutch work (7 years).
- onefastxc8A: The 2005 Ski-Doo Mach Z left the factory with a lot on the table. There were clutching updates that improved the machine's performance quite substantially. The least expensive, with good improvement is to install an adjustable pin set (Straightline part no. 121-140). The typical setting for the machine with stock springs, helix and ramps is 18-21 g. The best rpm to clutch to on your 2005 is 7,600-7,700. There are more improvements available with a complete clutch kit and the typical price range is from $250 to $350 complete.
