ArvinMeritor, Inc., maker of RydeFX shocks, makes its move into the motorcycle market with its first contract to supply Harley-Davidson exhaust pipes. Production is scheduled to commence in July 2002 with annual volumes exceeding 650,000 exhaust pipes.

The agreement with Harley-Davidson Motor Company represents ArvinMeritor's first contract to produce exhaust products for motorcycles, a sector characterized by ArvinMeritor as "lifestyle vehicles."

ArvinMeritor Exhaust Systems is working towards aggressive expansion outside its traditional passenger car and light truck exhaust markets, and this award represents an important step in advancing this strategy, according to Craig Stinson, president, ArvinMeritor Exhaust Systems.

"We greatly value the confidence Harley-Davidson has shown in ArvinMeritor's engineering and manufacturing expertise by selecting us as supplier for its motorcycles built at its York and Kansas City plants," Stinson said. 'It's an honor to be chosen as a supplier to a company with such a rich heritage as Harley-Davidson, and we look forward to strengthening the newly-formed relationship."
"At Harley-Davidson, we recognize our supply chain is one very important aspect of our success. I feel the synergies between ArvinMeritor and the Harley-Davidson Motor Company will prove to be a mutually beneficial relationship," said Garry Berryman, vice president materials management and product cost, Harley-Davidson.

ArvinMeritor Exhaust Systems, is a business unit of ArvinMeritor.
