american snowmobiler shootout 2006

Amsnow
Get ready to kick off the 2006-'07 sled season early at American Snowmobiler's Shootout!

This year AmSnow is partnering with the National Snowmobile Drag Racing Association (NSDRA) and the Professional Snowmobile Grass Drag Racing Association (PSGDRA) to bring you coverage of the best weekend of snowmobile drags in the country. For two days, Aug. 19 and 20, these two drag racing organizations will join forces with US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Mich., to give you a double shot of racing. NSDRA will run asphalt drags and PSGDRA will run grass drags simultaneously only a couple hundred feet away from each other at the US 131 Motorsports Park track.

That's right! Grass and asphalt racing together at the same venue for two days! American Snowmobiler will be there lending coverage and adding more sled fun of our own to the event. AmSnow is working with Hauck Powersports of Wisconsin and Straightline Performance from Minnesota to bring you several Yamaha and Ski-Doo stock sleds that we will run Saturday morning on the grass and then Sunday morning on the asphalt. We will report numbers online and in our December issue.

In addition, Land and Sea Dyno will be coming as our official dyno testers of the event, and Yamaha will be bringing a demo fleet of new 4-strokes and offering rides to the public on a closed grass course.

Phazer vs. Phazer
Want more? Well, we've just been told that Maine-based Woody's Performance and Simons CPR of Wisconsin will both be bringing new Yamaha Phazers to the Shootout and will be sending them down the asphalt Sunday morning for top-speed numbers.

Many will remember Simons CPR from its blistering 170 mph run at Martin last year and sub 8 second runs at AmSnow's Shootout last October. Simons more stock Phazer is currently pulling low 90's mph speeds while Woody's Performance - a main Shootout regular and long time racer - is looking to pull solid 95 mph speeds out of their newly geared and clutched Phazer. All this will only be at the Shoot-Out in Michigan!

The Program
On the asphalt side, NSDRA will run two full days of racing. Saturday will be the NSDRA-sponsored event, which touts a Quick 16 heads-up race and a bracket race. Sunday AmSnow partners with NSDRA to first run our stock sleds and Phazer duel, and then will work with NSDRA to bring you another Quick 16 and bracket race. What does this mean? Two full days of racing and plenty more to see for you asphalt junkies!

For the grass lovers, PSGDRA will be simultaneously running grass drags both days. AmSnow will partner with PSGDRA to run stock sleds briefly Saturday morning on the grass before PSGDRA delivers a full grass drag program each day. There will be plenty of classes and plenty of fun for everyone. If you've never been to the grass track at Martin, you need to check out how smooth it is in person!
