acsa asks for yellowstone support
Amsnow
In a letter from ACSA Executive Director, Christine Jourdain, she asks for our support in the re-opening of the Yellowstone National Park decision-making process regarding snowmobile use in the park.
To: All Snowmobilers
From: American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) Executive Director, Christine Jourdain
As you may know, we are entering a very important phase of snowmobiling on public lands. While this phase specifically focuses on Yellowstone National Park, it is important to keep in mind that Yellowstone is public land -- owned and managed by the government -- just like Forest Service lands and BLM lands.
Please take just a couple of minutes to write a letter to Secretary Norton and/or President Bush. The following can be used or feel free to modify and personalize.
Your efforts will be appreciated. Thanks!!

The Honorable Gale Norton

Dear Secretary Norton:
Thank you for showing your integrity with the recent developments in Yellowstone. By directing the National Park Service to prepare a supplemental EIS, there is hope that America's snowmobilers will be treated fairly. I applaud your decision to re-open the decision making process regarding the use of snowmobiles in Yellowstone! This decision assures a fair and equitable fact-finding process to resolve wintertime access to the "public's park."
By re-opening this process, I am confident that new technology will be considered rather than prejudice and junk science that was used by the last administration. It is only fair that all opinions are included in the decision-making process. This new process should show that, before taking away the American public's right to have reasonable access to public land, there must be accurate and open decision making with sufficient input from the people who live and work near the Parks as well as those that use the Parks.
When the Clinton administration ram-rodded their decision in the 11th hour, we were disappointed, not only with their decision but also by the process. As an American citizen, I have always taken for granted that the decisions made by our government were fair and based on and good science. Obviously that was not the case with the previous administration.
The public deserves a full and fair evaluation that it was so clearly previously denied. With proper management and new technology, it seems only reasonable that snowmobiles be allowed an opportunity to demonstrate they can be utilized in the Parks without destroying the very pristine lands that we want to enjoy.
Thank you for reopening this process. I look forward to an open, fair and democratic decision-making process on the management of winter use in Yellowstone National Park. Thank you for reopening this process.
Sincerely,
