3700 cats recalled

Amsnow
eporter Jeff Bater of Dow Jones Newswires reported that the Consumer Product Safety Commission on December 12th announced the recall of 3,700 Arctic Cat snowmobiles due to risk that the vehicle's skis are susceptible to cracking.

The CPSC was reported to state that Arctic Cat Inc. of Thief River Falls, Minn., is recalling the machines because the red plastic skis used on those 2003 model year snowmobiles could be damaged by UV light exposure.

The problem was listed as a potential operator loss of control due to breakage of the skis.

The problem apparently came to light if during off-season storage the snowmobile was stored with the skis exposed to sunlight. Under that scenario, UV damage may have occurred. If such damage occurred, the ski could break. The operator could loss control of the vehicle in the event of such breakage, the agency said.

No injuries, however, have been reported.

The sled were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships worldwide from June 2002 into this month for between $6,500 and $8,500, the CPSC said.
