From Day 1 we’ve been chomping at the bit to get taste of the C-TEC2 600cc engine in Arctic Cat’s El Tiger 6000. Here’s our take after the first 1,000 miles.
The first thing you notice from the very first corner you take is how light the sled is. We really could not believe the ease of handling on this machine. During our initial break-in of the sled everyone marveled at the almost effortless turning and smooth ride in the ProCross chassis. I know that sounds like I’m going overboard, but honestly, I’m not.
We were all that impressed with the handling.
The new 2-stroke C-TEC2 engine showed nearly flawless as well. There was great throttle response on the low end and it pulled like a bull through top speeds near 90 mph. That jump combined with the light weight made the El Tigre an awesome ride zipping through the trails. We’ve found oil consumption to be minimal too.
Our only issue was a faulty knock sensor on our demo sled. We have not heard of any other issues of this nature, so it does not appear it’s anything to be overly concerned with. Arctic Cat quickly sent us a new sensor and we’ve had zero issues since replacement.
We’ll have a full report on fuel mileage in an upcoming fall issue, but early indications are the El Tigre 6000 will settle in somewhere around 13 – 14 mpg. A number like that would put it in the top half for fuel economy among our demo sleds this season.
We’ve thrown almost everything we could think of at the El Tigre and it has stood up to each and every challenge. I could easily recommend this sled to any number of trail riders and know they’d be more than happy with the El Tigre 6000.
