Arctic drive system (ADS): In Brief

ADS WITH TCL (enough initials yet?) replaces the ACT Drive system and uses a floating plate that connects to the PTO side of the engine to the jackshaft’s bearing housing. This keeps a constant center-to-center distance that means everything aligns better. Not only do you get better acceleration, but the belt will wear less and overall performance is more consistent.
Cat says the new chain, gear and jackshaft design in the system also make it easier to change gearing, something the performance oriented riders have been clamoring for. Again, Cat wants to keep its “World Fastest Sleds” tagline.
Note too that there’s a longer center-to-center distance on the 800s, 12.2 inches vs. 10.5 inches on previous models. The 1100 4-strokes will see an 11.5-inch center-to-center distance. And the 4-stroke is reverse capable too.
You’ll also notice the brake rotor remains on the driveshaft here and Cat has redesigned all that with the help of Hayes Brake. The new radial hydraulic master cylinder is lighter and will deliver easier and more immediate stops with less lever pressure.
The caliper sits on the back of the rotor so chassis flex won’t have any impact on the pistons or knock them back. That allows for smaller caliper pistons and a shortened lever pull too. The solid rotor controls heat in the system as well.
