AmSnow.com is now SnoWest.com

How does Cat plan to do that?

It has tweaked and tightened and redesigned a lot of little things to make the Sno Pro 600 even more “dominating.”

Here’s a quick look at changes on the Sno Pro 600 race sled.

On the chassis there are new tunnel support braces and the upper spar assembly gussets were thickened to increase durability. The fuel tanks will now be clear instead of black and the side panels will have a textured surface.

Better holeshots? Sure, Cat says its snocross engines get a new CDI program based on ignition timing and exhaust valve opening per pipe temperature. In addition, the VIP system allows for better race setup tuning via a more accurate date retrieval system due to a new water temp and throttle position sensor. But it also reads exhaust pipe temps, track speed, driven shaft speed and the tach. (Racers note that this VIP system is sold separately from the sled.)

You’ll also see the engine mount material improved to better resist degradation due to oil and gas getting on it. Cat also uses a new inlet tube and exhaust pipe tem probe fitting on the exhaust manifold, which it says should aid performance and durability.

The suspension has undergone a variety of changes including a revision of the rear rails with the transfer control assembling moving forward in the rails for aggressive transfer adjustments. Dovetailing with that is larger diameter rear idler arm wheels that help maintain proper track tension on higher settings. This ensures quicker coupling.

The rear arm Fox shock compression valving also has been improved to help in the big whoops or longer duration bumps. On the cross country sled the front arm Fox shock has been recalibrated too for better ride control in high-speed sharp bumps.

Drive system changes include a new snocross track that adapts to the new drive sprocket change fo the 2.86-inch Camoplast that’s 2 lbs. lighter than last year’s track. The track’s new lug pattern again is aimed at improving holeshots. The cross country trask will be a 1.25-inch lugged 2-ply RipSaw with a 2.52-inch pitch.
