The least changed 800 this season is the Polaris RMK 800. Originally, the RMK line-up was going without the RMK 700, so like Cat and Ski-Doo Polaris would offer just 600 and 800 models. However, a late change of thinking at Polaris saved the RMK 700 so you'll see it for 2010.
Shorter RMKs with the 144-inch track do get a new seat borrowed from the Switchback crossover models; this seat is wider at the rear for better trail comfort, but narrow at the front to avoid sacrificing off-trail maneuverability. Aside from that seat, the RMKs mainly benefit from BNG (bold new graphics). And that's OK with us; "if its not broke don't fix it." The 800 RMKs still are very strong contenders in the 800 mountain class.
Impressions: The RMK chassis is a great compromise between the rider forward position favored by the Summit and the more traditional riding position of Cat's M series. The riding position is good with the tall, wide Pro Taper handlebars that come on the Dragon and Assault models, we also like the 90-degree angled bar ends.
The RMK has a strong suspension package on all models especially the premium Dragon and Assault models. Polaris is really touting its "Terrian Dominating Control" slogan these days and the plush ride of the RMKs backs this up. Our only real complaint with the RMK is that the running boards remain too narrow. While the rails are nice in the way that they stay out of the snow, we found ourselves always standing on the rails' edges.
