Staying at the front of the sled; the Crossfire has an adjustable ski stance, just like the pure mountain sleds. This can be moved from a wider, more stable 44-inch stance, to a narrow, deep snow carving, 42-inch stance. Also up front are new 6-inch wide, deep keel, stiff, lightweight skis that dropped 1.9 lbs. vs. the '09 model. In the nose, new Frogzskin fabric hood vents replace the old steel screens. The Frogzskins let more air in, but less snow flows in under the hood.

Borrowing more from the mountain side of things, the 8 Limited has the Cat exclusive telescoping handlebar system. The 12-position, cam-adjustable steering system can be dropped into 12 different positions with just the use of one hand. In addition, there is a mountain grab strap atop the bars.

There's also plenty to talk about at the back of the sled. On top there is a new blow-molded seat that has a lot of storage in it. Similar to the highly touted aftermarket BOSS seats, this one is 3.5 lbs. lighter and 3-inches taller than the 2009 stock seat. Standing to sitting is a quick, comfortable transition with this seat. Beneath your seat and tunnel is a Fox Float equipped FasTrack Long-Travel suspension system. There's a Fox Zero Pro IFP front shock and Fox Float rear shock. Moving around the rear skid is a long, big lugged, snow churning 15x141x1.50-inch Cobra track.

Crossfire flaws
Are there any? Honestly, there are only two negative things we can mention about this sled. One is that your knees still bang the sides of the cowling when you land off semi-large, to large-sized jumps. The second is that with a 141-inch track with big 1.5-inch lugs, that is not tipped at all, the sled pushes more in the corners on the trails. But that is the tradeoff you make to have more off-trail capability.

Crossfire's last stand
This being the fourth year in basically the same chassis, will there be a big makeover next year for the Crossfires? We're not sure and the boys at Cat aren't talking, but we do know this is the best Crossfire yet!
