Net second-quarter earnings for Polaris stayed relatively flat when compared to the second quarter of 2006. This year's $22.9 million was up just $0.2 million from last year's $22.7 million. Total sales for the period were $376.9 million, which was a 7.4 million dollar drop from last year's second-quarter sales of $384.3 million.
Despite recent signs of the leveling off of the ATV industry, Polaris CEO Tom Tiller points out that Polaris is doing well cutting their inventory levels and gaining market share. Higher margin new products such as Victory motorcycle's new luxury touring line, and the new Ranger RZR UTV, continue to receive positive buyer orders and consumer attention. There is no mention of the snowmobile line in any of Tiller's comments however.
Snowmobile sales for the second-quarter totaled $4.4 million, down almost 17% from last year's second-quarter sales number, $5.3 million. The report points out that the second quarter is traditionally a seasonally low quarter for sled shipments.
