2004 polaris indy 500

The Indy 500 returns to the 2004 lineup mostly unchanged. It still features the 488cc Fuji twin that has powered the sled in three different decades and two different centuries. It is fed through a pair of 38mm flat slide Mikuni carburetors for easy throttle pull and good response.

The Indy 500's Edge front suspension uses CRC geometry to help keep the skis true in the corners as well as through their travel stroke. Nitrex gas shocks control the 10 inches of motion afforded by the trailing arm setup. The Indy 500 will be steered with a pair of plastic composite performance skis.

Out back, the Indy 500 sports the basic Edge skid with Nitrex shocks. The suspension is fully coupled, like the higher performance XC SPs, but the shocks and springs are set slightly softer for the less-aggressive rider.

Polaris' Indy 500 is a solid value for the snowmobiler who doesn't need to pound the ditches into submission or win the race across the lake. At $5,399 consumers get a dependable sled with many of the same components as the high performance, high dollar sleds.
