2003 polaris 340 edge xc

Polaris finally put its entry level sled into the contemporary Edge chassis.

The move completely changed the sled's personality and fun factor, while only raising the price by $200.

The new 340 Edge sled uses some of the same performance parts and features as the ProX and XC SP performance sleds. For instance, the little scooter has the new Phantom dual-piston hydraulic brake system like the ProX. Its Edge IFS geometry features the CRC steering package, like the XC SP.

To save some dollars and to match the fan-cooled engine's performance level, Polaris uses compression-adjustable Indy Select shocks.

Polaris also uses steel skis with EZ Steer carbides and eliminated the tachometer in order to save a few more dollars in production costs.

The Edge rear suspension uses an Indy Select on the front arm and a Nitrex shock on the rear. It is fully coupled and has the track tensioner cantilever arm.

Riding the 340 Edge is very similar to riding the performance XC SPs, with the exception of engine performance. As far as an entry level sled goes, our crew felt that this is the way to go.

"If you're just starting out, the 340 Edge gives you all of the feeling of riding a bigger machine," said Test Rider Les Pinz. "That's the best because when you upgrade to a more powerful sled, you already have a feel for the chassis and know what to expect."

The 340 Edge XC tips the scales at 465 factory pounds and is listed at $3,999.
