Overall
There is a big emphasis on the Edge chassis which we feel works well, but when compared directly to other brands on the test site was neither spectacularly ahead - nor behind - the competitions' best.
You'll find whatever you want in this brand, as Polaris is to snowmobiling what Chevrolet is to automobiles. Polaris has models for all snowmobilers and options available for all styles of riding, but not all models are best in class.
The new VES engines ran well. The 800 twin is one of the most manageable on the trail and we especially appreciate the effort Polaris made to make the engine easier to start. The 700 VES twin is a true gem in the lineup.
Now that Cat has paid much more attention to fit and finish, we find that everyone, including Polaris, tends to trail the leader - Yamaha - in that area. However, Polaris ergonomics are among the industry's best. This, too, is a closing gap with other makers designing better foot positions, handlebars, rider positioning, etc.
Polaris models are very functional and we especially like the handwarmer controls being so well thought out and easily accessed while riding. Polaris even adopted the use of RER on its 600 Classic Touring to give even more handlebar-mounted push-button ease.
