Across the Yamaha line for 2001, you'll find all 700cc models with attributes pioneered by the top of the line SRX series. Brightest example among the '01 changes is the use of the dual bulb "SRX-type" headlamp.
The 2000 SRX pioneered Yamaha's twin halogen bulb design. In '01 more Yamaha riders can benefit from what Yamaha calls its "depth of beam" projection capability. As a nightrider you not only want to see further down the trail, but you want to pick up the depth of the moguls ahead as well. Use of the dual halogen bulbs in concert with multi-faceted reflectors that poke light out further on high beam and brighter on low beam increases rider confidence at night. Because these beams suck juice from the electrical system, Yamaha had to boost power to 300 watts (versus 175 watts in the non-SRX 2000 models) for consistent lighting, especially at idle.
As part of the press intro of the 2001 Yammies included a few hours of night running, we can attest to the positive results of the beam pattern which increases the top to bottom headlight coverage. You can see moguls better as the beam seems to cast a shadow helping you to effectively discern mogul depth.
