With Ski-Doo's build your own sled program, you can piece together a very nice two-up touring sled in no time.
In the fan-cooled segment of Ski-Doo's touring line, there is only one platform choice- the S2000 chassis- simple, eh? Long the basis of the MX and Summit series and despite being phased out, the S2000 chassis has been a staff fave.
You do have a choice of two fan-cooled engines- either a 369cc or 497cc Rotax twin. Both come standard with Rotax' unique electronic reverse. Push a big dash-mounted button. Wait for the engine to slow, then counter-rotate. Voila… you are in reverse. It is truly that simple. Plus, the revisions made to the clutch system give you a bit of engine braking when you lift off the throttle. We view it as a plus.
Step 3, in Ski-Doo's new "1-2-3" build your sled program is color choice. This is a no-brainer as the only option is Deep Black.
This most basic of touring packages leaves you with a value-added sled. It comes standard with electric start, 10.6 US gallon fuel tank for long drives, heated handlebars, the stability of a wide 42-inch ski stance, supple action shocks front and rear, proven SC-10 rear suspension, and rider and passenger friendly seating.
If we were building this base unit, we'd opt for the 500cc twin- extra torque, combined with better than average mid-range performance. In our view you can't beat the electronic reverse. Basic value in two-up sledding is a virtue.
