Not everybody can afford a $7,000-plus machine, but everybody wants a sled that is stylish and loaded up with features. With a price tag at just a hair over five grand, the 2001 Sport Touring will appeal to anybody on a tight budget or looking to try double-up touring without making a large investment.
Under the Candy Apple Red Gen II hood you'll find Polaris' 550cc fan-cooled mill churning out enough power for two people on a pleasure cruise. We had a few hiccups on our first experience with this engine in its first year, but ever since, has proven itself a dependable power source.
Polaris placed its sporty XTRA-10 rear suspension under the Sport Touring. Its rear torque arm sports a compression adjustable Indy Select shock to customize your ride for solo or tandem riding.
The XTRA front suspension sports Nitrex gas shocks for a smooth ride. Under the standard steel skis are a set of Polaris' EZ Steer carbides to help reduce fatigue on those high mileage days.
The base Sport Touring offers pull start, reverse, two-tone seat and a tall windshield for comfort. It also has a standard cargo rack. For an additional $400 consumers can purchase a Sport Touring es model with standard electric start. However, that sled does not come with a cargo rack in its standard feature list.
