Butt comfort is supplemented with the new BOSS seat. The seat is designed to store an avalanche shovel. This is forward thinking. Hoffman wants his customer to see another dawn.
Optional Hi-Tech secondary clutch with roller cover is available. Standard is Polaris' primary clutch with Arctic Cat's secondary.
To bring the lightweight mountain mauler to a stop, a Wilwood master cylinder brake comes standard. However, Hoffman designed and has been installing his own quad-caliper disc brake. It mates to his new quality-engineered drive belt system which replaces the chain and sprockets for the track drivers. Hence, the drivers are spun from a belt and pulley system that resembles a funny car blower.
Fuel capacity is 12.5 gallons. If you need extra fuel, the custom fabricated tunnel is long enough for an external gas rack. Just in case.
According to the CMX web site, "Most CMX owners prefer the PSI 995 twin power-plant. With PSI's development of the variable exhaust port (VEP) the PSI 995 power delivery is incredibly smooth throughout the RPM range, and the low-end torque of the monster twin is very impressive.
The Dial-A-Dome compression adjustment is a nice feature for different altitudes. As you go up in elevation there is less air. This means lost compression. With the Dial-A-Dome (2-minute adjustment) you can dial some of that lost power back into the engine by adjusting cylinder compression.
On January seventh, we took to the mountains in Southeast Idaho aboard a 700 and 990 Genesis Xtreme. At first it is weird to get soaked by a lightweight, high horsepower mountain demon that runs with a 40-inch ski-stance, aggressive Simmons skis and FAST's effective Mountain M-10 suspension.
There were other matters we had to get used to, and these by any means are not a downfall. First was not having a clear windshield to peer through. No big deal, mountain riders spend so much time off-seat, the windshield factor is - no factor.
Any time you have a CMX under your hands do this: highmark it, sidehill it, shove it here, shove it there, thread the trees and pass your friends. Do it, enjoy it and don't apologize for it.
The 144-inch long by two-inch deep lug track spinning over the M-10, led by the Simmons skis, make the most clumsy driver an expert. One other thing regarding deep, deep snow snorkeling. A sled head really has to go out of his way to get stuck when riding one of these gals. It is that forgiving.
