Arctic Cat's Panther 550 is the value-oriented liquid-cooled touring machine of the lineup. But don't let its positioning fool you- this is still packed up with the cool gadgetry of the big ol' Panteras.
Tucked under the GI Joe colored ZR hood lies the tried and true 550 Suzuki mill. This used to be the performance sled engine in its day. In 2001, it still provides 80 ponies to get your sleigh through the woods.
Probably the coolest thing about the Panther 550 is its new split seat. Like the Panteras, the queen seat section pulls out for solo riding with a gigantic cargo area. Cat will offer an accessory expandable bag which is specifically designed to strap into the rack space in either seat setup. Very cool!
Under the new seat, consumers will find the stretched-out FasTrack touring suspension, replete with easy-to-use flip-over fiberglass overload springs for when you're riding double-up. Of course, the Panther 550 comes with standard electric start, reverse, mirrors and color-matched 13-gallon fuel tank.
RydeFX shocks and coil over springs keep the AWS V's ride smooth and comfortable. The difference between the 550 and the bigger, triple-equipped models is that the Panther 550's blow-molded plastic skis are set at 41 inches, compared with 43 inches.
With a price tag of $6,499, the Panther 550 is an appealing option for two-up riders and should not be overlooked!
