American Trails chair, Kay Lloyd and husband Dale, completed a 2000-mile snowmobile ride on the Great Western Trail to celebrate its nomination as a National Millennium Trail. The trail runs from Canada to Mexico. The Lloyds followed a route, riding 60 to 140 miles per day, on February 7, 2000 from Eureka, Montana and ended February 25 near the Grand Canyon.
In 1994, Kay participated in a fund raising ride on the Iditarod Trail, used for the annual Iditarod Sled Dog Race. She has led snowmobiling organizations for the past 17 years and was appointed by the White House to represent American Trails on the Millennium Trails working group. Kay's responsibility is to assist with the follow through of Millennium Trail celebrations. "The Great Western Trail is the first of 16 trail celebrations that will acknowledge the importance of trials in our lives," said Kay.
