We like it. The "new" Triumph. But, we liked the XLT Specialin the doggy old "Storm" chassis, too. That's basically what the new/old Triumph is - an updated XLT Special in the better chassis. Since thebig 800 triple was shoehorned into the Gen II chassis and the old platform discarded, it only figures that if the XLT version of the same sled were to remain in the lineup, it would do so in the new chassis as well.
A name change from XLT to Triumph officially ends the reign of extralight triple engined sleds. Now what you get is a Gen II chassis with very trailable suspensions AND an exceptionally smooth powertrain for all-around riding.
At the rear, last year's XLT Special and this year's Triumph are similar with the XTRA-10 setup controlled by Ryde FX and Fox position sensitive shocks.
The Triumph features the upgraded braking system with enhanced performance pads and sight gauge master brake cylinder. Expect very good performance from the brake system.
Also expect the Triumph to virtually satisfy your all around needs for a great snowmobile package. Price-wise the 2000 Triumph will cost you about 300 bucks more than the '99 XLT Special. Overall, we'd say that anyone purchasing a Triumph is getting good all around value for the long haul.
