Cargo Space
Obviously when you're out on the trail for a multi-day excursion, there will be luggage. You'll be toting a toothbrush, toothpaste and a change of socks at the barest minimum (please!). Most likely, though, you'll have a pack full of spare clothes, tools and other emergency equipment. You need a place to carry it all. All touring sleds have at least some storage inside the seat. But if you're bringing clothes for two people you need a rackon the back. Some sleds can help, some can't.

Arctic Cat added new plastic cargo racks on its Pantera 1000, 580 EFI,Triple Touring and Panther 550. The new parts are lightweight, rugged, rust-proof and most importantly, they're bigger than anybody else's. The tail light is mounted on the back end of the rack for visibility. The fan-cooled Panther440 and 340 sport the slightly smaller metal cargo racks on the rear.

Ski-Doo put a metal rack on the back of its liquid-cooled Grand Touring series and the Touring 500 LC. It is not as broad as Cat's but it is taller.Like Cat's rack it has the light affixed at the far back. The fan-cooledTouring SLE, LE and E list a luggage rack as a dealer optional piece.

Polaris offers a luggage rack as an option on all four of its traditional two-up touring sleds. Though it's really more of a utility machine, Polarisconsiders the WideTrak LX a two-up sled this season. It comes with a standard rack and a fold-up under-seat stowage space.

Yamaha does not have a luggage rack available for its Venture 600 and700. It does list a rack as options for the Venture 500 and XL.
