Powder Special 600
Arctic Cat offers a pair of Powder Special 600 machines. You can opt to have Cat's batteryless EFI system or a pair of 38mm flat slide Mikunis feed fuel to the 599cc Suzuki engine. The carb version is equipped withan altitude compensator, while the EFI system samples the ambient conditions to adjust its mixture. That is the primary difference between the two.

Both Powder Specials carry a narrower version of the AWS double wishbone suspension. Economical gas shocks monitor the 5.75 inches of travel on the nose end. Cat uses its wide plastic skis, set at 37 inches, to keep the front afloat in deep powder.

In the back, Cat's FasTrack suspension is stretched out to accommodate the 136-inch track. Ryde FX shocks smooth the 13.5 inches of travel. Ason all Cat suspensions, the triangular blocker makes for easy adjustment.Cat offers the deepest lug stock track- two inches. That'll move more snow and get you around better in the powder, but it's also slightly heavier.

Cat folks offer a few mountain-style goodies for your riding pleasure. This year the deep snow machines come with a mountain grab bar. They weren't on the prototypes we saw, but they will be on the sleds in the dealerships.Another little nicety Cat added is the rear rack on the tunnel extension. It's a good way to keep your extra gas can, or survival gear safely bungeed down.

The Powder Specials carry a hefty price tag. The carb version lists at $6,599 and the EFI is the priciest sled in the class at $6,899.
