1992 arctic cat efi ext late season addition

Arctco, Inc., maker of Arctic Cat snowmobiles, made an initial production of an electronic fuel injection (EFI) edition of the popular EXT 550 for the 1992 snowmobile season.

The new EFI EXT features a digitally-controlled electronic fuel injection system that is similar to the system used in the 1992 Wildcat 700 EFI.

Arctic engineers noted that the company's EFI technology was not rushed to market. Instead, the project was given the extra time necessary to refine Arctic Cat's digital injection to a very high level of development, completing a system sophisticated enough for the unique demands of snowmobiling.

Cat's main marketing man, Ole Tweet, said Arctco believes consumer demand for an intermediate Arctic Cat EFI for 1992 makes this additional model a significant and appropriate marketing decision of the industry's technology leader.

"After an extended development program, our EFI system is performing up to expectations and beyond," Tweet said. "Despite arriving in the marketplace relatively late this season, we're confident significant demand exists for this extended production of EXT models equipped with Arctic Cat's new digital EFI."

The EXT EFI is a single passenger snowmobile with a wide stance, long travel Arctic Wishbone ski suspension (AWS). The popular Arctic Cat features a compact 550cc twin-cylinder engine with Arctic digital dual throttle body EFI and digitally-controlled ignition. The EXT powertrain utilizes an Arctco/Comet primary and quick-adjust secondary powering an aggressive full-block track. The EXT EFIs, according to Tweet, will be available in limited quantities, but should be enough to qualify the new snowmobile as a full production Arctic Cat model for 1992. The new Arctic Cat EXT EFIs were sent to dealerships this past January.
