AmSnow's tech editor Olav Aaen brought three mostly stock sleds to the Super Sled Shoot-Out in Brainerd, with only slight modifications done to each.

Olav rode an AmSnow project sled (Nov. '05 issue), a Polaris Edge XC that Butch and Ryan Veltum had converted from a trail sled to an asphalt machine in about four hours. The mostly stock asphalt runner raced competitively in bracket races. It used only an Aaen internal stinger exhaust system and a Wahl Brothers rear suspension. The solid 600cc sled originally turned in the quarter-mile in 12.1 seconds at 103 mph and now runs in the 11.7 range at about 107 mph.

The MXZ 800 REV that Phil Anello ran uses an Aaen double core exhaust, generates 155 horses and puts that to the pavement via a 15-inch wide track. It also has a race-cut head on the motor. It topped out at 113 mph and clicked off the quarter in 11.2 seconds.

Meanwhile Veltum's 800 REV gained a little more speed with a higher compression head and trail porting. He also ran a 10 5/8-inch track and the sled weighed in at 500 pounds, 10 less than Anello's. With the additional compression came more power as Butch hit 119 mph in 10.7 seconds.
