When it comes to purchasing a motorsports helmet, there seem
to be hundreds to choose from and there is no shortage of hype surrounding
them. To Be Technology hopes to make this choice easier for you with its latest
helmet dubbed the Do Rock, available this fall.
Last year, To Be Technology threw its proverbial hat into
the ring with its Do Thrill helmet, a standard ABS helmet for the masses that
featured To Be's unique styling and graphics. The helmet was received with much
praise but the Swedish-based clothing manufacturer was not about to rest on its
laurels. It set out to create something much lighter with an even more original
graphic design and new innovative features that the snowmobile industry has not
previously had access to.
Enter the Do Rock.
The Do Rock helmet has an impressive feature set, but at the
top of the list is the ultra-lightweight Skullcandy speakers. This lid ships
with standard cheek-pads installed but also in the box is an optional set of
cheek-pads with built-in Skullcandy speakers. Even with the speakers installed,
this helmet weighs in at a feather-light 1,250 grams. That makes this a DOT and
ECE (race approved) helmet only 2.75 lbs. The shell is constructed from carbon
fiber that is reinforced with fiberglass. It is available in white with sizes
from XS-XXL.
The speaker kit also contains a cable with an in-line volume
controller/microphone that connects your audio device to the helmet. This
enables you to easily adjust the volume without having to dig through your
pockets to locate your audio device. The kit also comes with a slew of cell
phone adapters so you can use it as a hands-free headset or listen to music stored
on your cell phone. The speakers utilize a standard 1/8-inch headphone jack so
the helmet can be used with any mp3 player or even 2-way radios. While any mp3
player will work, the helmet was built to be used with To Be's own easy-to-use
iPod controller. This iPod controller mounts on the sleeve of your To Be jacket
and can be used to pause/play, change track and adjust volume on your iPod
without ever having to remove it from the safety of your custom-made, warm and
dry pocket. The controller works with all of Apple's iPod mp3 players except
the Shuffle.
Rounding off the large inventory of features is a removable
washable liner and an optional breath box. Priced at $375, this helmet is a
bargain considering its quality construction, ultra light weight, Skullcandy speakers
and safety ratings.
