Ok, so I'm looking to upgrade from my 01 Skidoo Summit 700 144track and an 06 Polaris RMK 700 159 track, 1200mi. is avialable near me. The sled has no mods and a salvage title... $4500.00 and I could probubly talk him down to $4200.00 (this is about $700.00 over the top of my budget btw). Apparently the L upper and lower A-Arms and L shock and L fender (lower L belly pan) have been replaced due to a wreck this sled had before the seller bought it at auction and then repaired with the above mentioned parts, otherwise (per the seller) the sled is in "great" condition.

Questions:

#1: Is this a fair deal?

#2: What are considerations if buying a sled with a salvage title, safety?, insurance? resale value?

#3: Is there anything (extra) that I should be looking at in evaluating this sled as it's obviously taken a whacking to the L front?.

I still have plenty of time to get a new-to-me sled as the season hasn't started around here yet and I still have my Doo to ride so I'm not in a rush. (I would LOVE to find a really clean 05 or 06 600 to 700 Dragon 151!).
Thanks

You could buy a wrecked one for so much cheaper, and repair it for less.

IMO you would be better off with the 06' 600

Yea, though it was probubly almost a grand high for a salvage title, just really starting to look around, wondering about anything extra to look for on a wrecked sled, or insurability issues, title ect...

I would love to find a nice 05/06 Mtn sled (600-800cc) 151 track with a blown motor (just missed an 06 RMK last week going for 2K) if anyone has one lying around and wants it gone in or around central Oregon feel free to PM me about it, I'm shoppin! ;)

YEs way too high $$ for a salvaged sled..my wife has the 06 700 159 and we bought it last year almost mint for $3700 all stock...i wouldnt give more then $3000 for it...but you would be happier on an 07+ or the 06 600 IMO..even though i love her sled and so does she..

good luck in your journies..

Seems high, got my 04 Arctic Cat MC8 for $1,250 with a salvage title, it had the L side control arms replaced, that's it. Best $1,250 I've ever spent...

I Just recently saw a 05 RMK 800 for $2,500 on craigslist locally, low miles even, I'd keep shopping if I were you.

that is way to high of a price even if it didn't have a salvaged title, just a warning they only made that engine for 1 year so if it breaks your SOL. I would stay away from the 06 700 personally

Do what he says ... Do what he says.

For the $$$$ you are paying get an 07 or 08 ... 600 or 700 cc with no salvage title.

and and and you will never know how well the condition of the "rebuild" until you do a major body / engine repair .... or break the sled on a jump, rock, etc.

Insurance will not touch a salvaged sled.

Yea, I am definitly just lookin around for now and seeing whats available. I have plenty of time and no real rush as I like my 01 Summit but if I sell it and add to that the money that the mods I would like to do to it would cost I'd have about $3,200.00 so that puts me in the price range of a much newer sled .

I'd like a Doo 06 Summit 800 or an RMK 800 or Dragon 800 05 or newer, Good 1/2 trail and 1/2 Mtn.Boondockin sled. A smaller 600-700cc sled would be ok too as I'm not really into hill climbing or jumping the sled, just wanna be able to tackle the terraine around here in Central Oregon.
