Question for you guys: I have had problems with rpms & track speed like a lot of guys. Pulling a hill in a foot of powder i can't get any more than 36mph and 7700-8000rpm. I ride an 09' rmk 800 155" which is bone stock other than an aftermarket can. I have purchased 3-delron washers, a green/pink primary spring, mtx 68 gram weights, a dual sided helix (58/40/.36 or 62/42/.46), but can't decide on my sprockets? I have heard of people using a 19/46 and having good results. You said you use a 19/42, but i've been told that might not be a big enough increase from the stock 19/41? I couldn't find a 60/40/.36 helix so i went with the dual sided. I might have all of these helix numbers a little screwy so bare with me, but i think that's what i've been told. And i've been told a 19/45 or 19/43 sprocket setup is great, but then i've had a local mechanic say that polaris doesn't recommend those cuz it'll cause problems unless you use a 20 top with a 43 or 45 bottom? So i'm frikin' confused. I'd really appreciate your advice. Once again, my sled is stock, so i'm sure your slp single & reeds make a difference with your setup. Let me know though. Thanks alot.

This is what I'm running in my 08 D8 w/163 and SLP performance kit.

MTX weights-68g (3g rivet outer hole, 2g rivet inner hole)
Blue/Pink primary spring 140/340
Black/Purple secondary spring 160/240
56-40ER.36/56-42ER.36 Helix
20/45 gearing (2.25:1 ratio) 78P chain

19/45 (2.37:1 ratio) seems way to low for a stock sled as do the 68 gram MTX weights which is why your not getting the RPM's you should. Should be around 8200.

I believe a lot of people are using the 19/42 (2.21:1 ratio) set up with their 155's (its what we ran on our D7's). 20/43 (2.15:1 ratio) is a great gear set up for a stock 155 sled as well.

What elevation do you ride at and what is your riding style (mountain/climbing or trail riding)?

Hey thanks for the advice. I ride usually between 6000-8500ft. We do a lot of boondocking and climbing. We aren't extreme climbers, but we do like to find hills that are a challenge or that allow us to have highmarking competitions ya know. But i have heard a lot of different stuff with the helix's on my sled, but i've never heard of somone dropping lower than stock, they usually increase the numbers on the helix. So i don't know. I haven't put the mtx weights in yet, my tacking problem is with the stock weights and setup, i did at one time even drop my weights to a 60gram from the stock 62grams, but that only helped for about a 100 rpms. So i don't know. What are you getting for rpms & track speed??

Personally 19/45 is not a great boondocking gear ratio.

The 56-40ER.36/56-42ER.36 Helix is what came stock on this 08 D8. Running the 56-42ER.36 angle.

Pulls anywhere from 48-53 mph on a deep snow climb at 8250 rpm's.

crazy

It's crazy how some sleds just work better than others. Did you ever have problems tacking before you did all of your clutching and performance stuff? I'm guessing i probably need an slp single pipe then if i'm wanting to get the same track speed & rpms that you are getting with a similar setup? And did you notice a big difference when you did a 20/45 ratio? Do you know anyone that has tried a 19/46 ratio? OH, AND DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT RPMS & TRACK SPEED YOU WERE GETTING WHEN YOUR SLED WAS STOCK?

is your sled piped? and are you looking at your active mph gauge glancing down to see these numbers or going back into the computer and seeing your max speed? we havent seen a sled break 50mph track speed consistently anyways that wasnt turbo'd or big bored.

Yes it is. It is in no way stock, I believe I even said above it has the 800 performance kit. 48mph was average and it is going by the gauge.

Before the sled hit the snow the gears and kit were done, so I don't know what it was stock. I have never heard anyone (that I ride with around here) that has gone with more than a 43 bottom gear with the 19 top. I like the 20/45, it is what I've run in all of my 900's with 166 tracks.
