We need to move up from the 2 Scandics also.We have one as well. RTP grant for a new Expedition last year and sold the Skandic.
Did he use a static rope on either end?Mike Duffy showed us some footage of how to pull a person on a S&R sled out of some pretty technical terrain using two regular mountain snowmobiles. One in front with it roped to the rear bumper and one behind with it roped to the front bumper. Rear snowmobile basically held the S&R sled from dropping too low down the hill and pulling the first one down with it. Went right across a side hill with it.
Didn't say there was anything special about the rope, but he did say it was a tricky balance to keep the tail end under the right tension. Rear guy is responsible for not letting the sled get into the track of the lead sled too. Said it needs to be a practiced technique if the S&R crew plans to use it. Said they got a badly injured guy out of a bad place in about 2hrs whereas it would have taken all night using any other method.Did he use a static rope on either end?
We had to drag a sled out that had a lower QD bolt break. I happened to be the tail gunner and keeping that rope in tension at the right times is a bit tricky.
