Mtn Seat build?

02 mountain cat 800 mountain seat

Anyone tried to tackle building their own mtn seat? I have been looking online and really cant see why some of the companies charge so much for a seat. Am I missing something? I feel like I could build my own, for about the same cost, or even a little less.
Does anyone have pictures or info on doing such?
