I hear you on that one... my KK has taken down a few trees! I think they need to make an M9, because I want to play and frolic in the pow and trees, and highmark all of my buddies too... Looks like a good used 07 for around 6,000 bucks. I have seen new 08's for 7,800... with these prices it really doesn't pay to buy a used one does it?

I am 6'-5" and 270 and own both sleds you are considering. I bought the 08 M1000 162 first then modded it and bought the 09 M8 153 this year for my Wife (right!). If I had to do it all over again and could only buy one sled it would be the 09 M8. This sled is amazing and with a few intake/exhaust mods it would be the ideal sled.

You can throw it around so much better than the M1000 and the Power Claw track makes the 153 a great choice for all around sledding. If you do buy a leftover 08 you will definitely want to spend the money on upgrading the track, huge difference.

I do love my M1000 now that it's all done the way I like it and it rips but I believe that I ride better on the M8.

cant beat the chassis. i own an m7 and would advise you coming off a 900 to stay away from the m7. you will miss the torque. i know i do. cousin bought an 09 m8 and im in love with that thing. thinking i might pick one up this summer. in my oppinion an m1000 is un needed unless you are just a big hill climber. the m8 is the best boondocker ever built imo.

So I got prices locally today:
09 Sno Pro M1000 for $11,000, $11,300 with two year warranty
Is this a good price? I think I want the Sno Pro Package, and it looks like folks like the 09's much better than the 08's... I think if I was 50 pounds lighter I would get the M8, but I want that power!
Tell me your thoughts!

Both my brother and I have 07 M8's and can do anything that we want to do. Granted, we do not care if we are the highmark on the hill but rather play in the powder all day. By the way we both out weigh you. Matt J. rides a M6 and loves it, but he is a little smaller than the rest of us.

Seems pretty expensive still, I think there's some rebates that just came out since they released the 2010's.

I haven't heard of any rebates yet... hopefully soon though. I can find sleds cheaper elsewhere, but I am pretty fond of my local dealer... but where does dealer loyalty and thousands and savings come into play? With the 09 prices still quite high, I am seriously debating an 08. I can get an 08 m1000 162'' regular for 8899 in orange (not a fan), but can find them elsewhere for as low as 7800. Are the 09's 2500 better than the 08's? 24 pounds lighter, and a better track... i am torn!

Matt J. also got his sled for almost free, and is would be a bad azz rider on a 94 jag 340!

Those prices seem really high. I bought my 09 M8 1-1/2 months ago for $7999. Sno Pros were $699 more (but of course were sold out of them)

Sorry I didn't see that you were looking at a 1000. Those prices still seem high. For 11+ you can spring order a 2010 160 hp 800!

Interesting the rider preferences. Most of the guys I know are riding skidoo, AC a close second. I went from M8 for 2 seasons back to a 900 MC - I like the way it handles in powder, sidehilling, climbing better than M sleds and now my 12 year old rides one also in the same snow conditions - he has no problem with the handling and he is in the deep stuff with me. The M8 was better on rough trails but we still prefer the MC/KK sleds off trail. Next year we are going to try an M8 and a Summit out again.

09 m8 153 is incredible. :D Setup is flawless, so far 800mi. Best boondocker i've owned, no tuning-fuel map & clutching very well planned.

08 m10 153 takes a lot of dialing in. Needed fuel box, track and intake.
If i need to ride 100+ mi in a day, without opeing the hood. Its the M8

If i want ton's of torq , ear-2-ear grins :D, sore shoulders, big wheelies or the fresh is 4ft+ --- I ride the m10, 1700mi only problem:

worrying if i will have enough gas or a belt to get home......

Okay, now I am really torn... I can find an 07 M1000 for around $6,000, a new carry over 08 for 7,800, or an new 09 for 11,000. Bang for the buck, the 08 looks like the best deal. If I put a power claw track on it, would I really be that disappointed in an 08? Remember, I am coming off of a king cat. I ride with sleds of all kinds, new and old, and don't neccesarily need to be the 'king of the hill', but I would like to be toward the higher end of things. What do you think?
