exposed chain and sprockets, no chaincase. thoughts?

I just purchased a custom mod chassis it's based on an '02 polaris. Due to it being a great deal and 2 hrs away i didn't get to look at it before buying. As I removed the hood i observed that it is set up without a chaincase just gears and chain kinda like a motorcycle. What is everyones thoughts on this and has anyone seen it before? Should I try to fit a chaincase to it? Or just leave it be? Fyi I'll be putting a 98 700 motor in it. Any suggestions will help Thanks.

I have seen it before. I would put a real good quality motorcycle chain oil on it and give it a try.

Is just the chaincase cover missing, or is there no chaincase at all? Is it a motorcycle style sprockets/chain (does the chain have pins/rollers) or is it the regular snowmobile sprockets and chain?

There isn't a chain case period. It appears to be a motorcycle style sprocket and chain. No pics.

If its a true mod then it could be a timbersled chain drive. They didnt have much luck with it so they dont make it anymore.

Yes it looks very similiar to that timbersled setup. With the exception that it doesn't have the tensioner sprocket that the pic shows. What problems did they have with these?
